Responding to inquiries
How fast to respond, what to ask, and a template you can adapt.
Speed matters. Buyers who hear back within an hour are 4x more likely to book a visit than those waiting 24 hours.
What to ask
Three questions catch most red flags early:
- What's your current riding level (years, disciplines, height jumping/level dressage)?
- What are you looking for in your next horse?
- Do you have a trainer who'd come on a try?
Template
Hi {name} — thanks for reaching out about {horse}. To make sure she's a fit, could you tell me a bit about your current riding (level / disciplines) and what you're looking for? Happy to send more video or jump on a call once we've got a sense.
Saying no kindly
If a buyer's clearly mismatched (over-horsed, wrong discipline) — say so directly. "Honestly I think she might be more horse than you're ready for. Happy to suggest some other types if that's helpful." Buyers appreciate honesty and remember it.
